A Beginner-10 Answers I Wish I Knew

A Beginner – 10 Answers I Wish I Knew

Hello friends, are you unsure if you should start a blog or not?

You’re a beginner in affiliate marketing? If you are a beginner or want to be one you are in the right place.

For a beginner, starting a blog can be a terrifying thought specially when you are not geeky. Well, you are not alone.

This post will answer some common questions that a lot of beginners have.

So I’m giving you as…

A Beginner – 10 Answers I Wish I Knew

The 10 most common questions asked by beginners in blogging.

A beginner - 10 answers I wish I knew as a beginner

1) How much does it cost to start a blog?

Depending on your website host you can expect an average of 50$ to 250$ monthly.

This cost includes a domain, hosting, and a premium website theme (or website builder). You should plan to spend between 25$ to 150$ every month for other blogging tools, essential pluggings, and resources.

At some point, you should invest in a course to expand your skills and knowledge of blogging. There are coaching programs you could consider as well.

Like the number one I talk about in my other posts, you can join the Wealthy Affiliate program.  With us, you’ll have a coach, courses, and a lot of free plugins and free webinars, free other lessons offered by the community.

And within the time an ROI with Wealthy Affiliate. (return on investment).

2) How do you know what to blog about as a beginner?

Well before you buy your domain you’ll want to choose a niche for yourself.

A niche is a focused topic you’ll choose to write about, it’s a specific topic you’ll base your whole blog around.

Consider blogging about your passions, teach everything you know and are good at. Think about missing content from your favorite blogs or focus on presenting solutions to problems.

For example; Lifestyle, business, travel, food, etc…  There are so many possibilities.

Have you ever run out of ideas for your blog?

If you choose a niche that you know, something you love to talk about, a passion maybe and it’ll help you with your blog posts.

If you write about something that excites you and makes you happy, you won’t run out of ideas.

3) BUT, if it would ever happen I do have some tips:

  • make lists, when you have an idea write it down
  • look at Pinterest boards
  • go on youtube search your niche
  • take ideas from other bloggers (do not copy, but inspire yourself with their blog)
  • Search forums
  • brainstorm topics

4) When does a blog start making money?

It takes around 6+ months to start making money, for a full-time income prepare yourself to put in at least a year’s worth of work.

Most bloggers reported that it took them at least 6 months to start making money. A good 6 months of 40-hours/week work, even for those who are skilled in the making of blogs.

It can depend on the way you rely on making traffic to your blog. if you only rely on SEO search to make your traffic it may take longer.

Marketing will speed up the process, paid or free ads.

5) Is social media necessary?

You DO NOT need social media to be a successful blogger.

Social media is a great promotion and marketing tool.  It’s not essential that to make it ‘big’ in the blogging world.

It can help you get an audience, as well as enhancing your traffic but it isn’t mandatory to start your blog.

Pinterest is a great way to drive free traffic to your blog and eventually an email list is a must to keep in touch with your followers.

When you start your blog concentrate on writing posts and expanding your site. After writing about 15 to 20 posts then you can start sharing on social media.

6) How does a blog earn money?

One of the most common ways to make money while blogging is through placing ads on your sites. Ads: Cost per click. Each time a reader clicks on the ad, you are paid for that click.

Ads are very popular among bloggers.

There’s affiliate marketing, which is when you recommend products and/or services, and receive a commission on every sale made.

You can sell your own products at your own prices. for example; ebooks, bracelets, notebooks, bags, etc…

You can do sponsored posts or some freelanced writing.

There’s also coaching and consulting.

7) How much time do you spend blogging?

You can spend 60 minutes to 6 + hours on an average post. Depending on your time schedule. When you start usually you’ll spend all your free time on it.

Usually, bloggers are more likely to work around 20 to 40 hours a week on their websites.

Pros are most likely working 60 + hours per week on their website

You have to make time to find a topic then research your topic, edit your photos, write your post, etc…

You also need to make time to reply to comments and arrange your email list.

8) Is a Professional website necessary?

A professional website is more so for your business, it shows credibility.  Is it a necessity? No!

You don’t need a professional website to make money. It gets pretty expensive hiring someone to build one.

But…  You can build a website with us at Wealthy Affiliate Program. An easy program to learn and how to do it yourself.  This is the way I did and I can help you do it.

9) Do you need a lot of blog posts?

You should think about the quality of your posts before the quantity!

Your audience doesn’t want you to have 200 ok blog posts, they rather have 50 great, amazing blog posts.

For certain situations, you might need a minimum of posts.

For example, You should have at least 15 posts on your blog before you ask for ads.

10) Advice for any beginner blogger?

  • Write about something you are passionate about. Nice down, be specific about your niche.
  • Develop your own tone, you don’t have to be perfect in your posts, put personality in your posts.
  • Consistency is very important.
  • Get inspired by other blogs.
  • Make content easy to scan!
  • Get ideas from your audience. Create posts that answer the most interesting questions from people you engage with on your blog.
  • Write for yourself first.
  • Build your email list.

  1. Hi Lyne,

I would say that you’re accurate when you say most bloggers work about 40+ hours a week on their blogs. I know I put in a lot of hours on mine, that’s for sure. Depending on your niche, it can take longer than 6 months though to start making money. Especially if you’re relying on organic traffic, which is what I’m doing. Though, I may start paying for ads here soon since it’s been about a year that I’ve put time into this.
Blogging is fun, and it can be a lucrative income, once you’ve reached that stage. But, I will say, a lot of people give up before it starts to really take off. Only because many think it’s a get rich quick type deal and it’s not. Basically, it’s an internship for a long time. After that, you pay yourself after you’ve gotten customers.

    Thanks for sharing this information!

    • Hello Katrina, I work at least 35 to 40 hours on my website and I’m also relying on organic traffic. So it does take time to get this organic traffic. A get-rich-quick business type for me exists only if you win the lottery… I almost give up once because of the time that it takes to see commission come in. This is one of the reasons why a wealthy affiliate community is important. The motivation and help you get on this platform are incredible. Thank you for stopping by!

  2. The only thing I wish I knew at the begging of my journey would be how to skip all the nonsense courses out there and instead purchase training that actually works without any BS in it.

This is what bothers me the most about the online world, honestly.

There’s so much info out there which makes it quite hard for beginners to choose the right path straight away without blowing hundreds of dollars on overpromising courses first.

Nevertheless, to anyone that’s reading this – read a few posts on this blog as it’s a good starting point compared to all the other BS sites you’ll find nowadays.

    As always, your content rocks!

  3. Yes, Lyne, That is my experience too. I sit all day on my websites, blogging, optimizing SEO, sharing on social media, placing affiliate links, etc. It is consuming work, but a beautiful one, if someone loves to blog, as I do!
There is also a platform where people can start blogging for free, but it is quite difficult to get traffic. Wealthy Affiliate is the best for everyone while paying a small membership in comparison to others. Everyone can start for free and upgrade membership if they wish. The support we receive is outstanding.
I love your blog post, very well and detailed written. Great advice here! 🙂

    • Hi Sylvia, you write when you talk about wealthy affiliates. I learn to write and explain and detailed my posts to help readers find what they are looking for. Thank you for your comment. I appreciate it.
